‘Tosca’ at Wiener Staatsoper

This September, Carmen Giannattasio will return to Wiener Staatsoper in the title role of Puccini’s Tosca. Since premiering the part with San Francisco Opera, she has garnered much praise for her portrayal of the jealous opera singer:

“Giannattasio sang the title role with astounding dramatic skills and a captivating voice. She was compassionate and full of vitality, able as she was not only to love ardently but also to kill and die, out of love and self-respect. She exploited all the music’s pathos, jealousy, terror and desperation with an amazing richness of colour, a warm timbre and fine sensitivity for the drama.” (Bachtrack)

This iconic production by Margarethe Wallman will also feature Fabio Sartori as Cavaradossi, Ludovic Tézier as Baron Scarpia and Clemens Unterreiner as Cesare Angelotti with Axel Kober conducting. Performances will take place on September 3, 6, 9, 11.
